"Malizia" is at its best when it's examining the rituals of middle-class Sicilian life (a funeral where everything goes wrong and the corpse is almost burned up) and when it is leering at its sexually driven characters.Because Mr. This adds a dimension of cruelty to the comedy that expresses the intensity of the boy's frustrations, though it doesn't quite match the tone of the rest of the comedy. Underwear and its removal play a big part in Nino's fantasies, which somehow don't extend to consummated sex.There's a good deal of malice on Nino's part. When his father announces his intentions of marrying Angela, Nino's courtship evolves into a curious cat-and-mouse game, though the roles of cat and mouse are reversed in midgame.Nino effectively plays on Angela's good heart to grab a quick feel or two, then uses these indiscretions to blackmail her into going about her housework fully clothed but without her bra.
Antonio, the 18-year-old son, makes passes at Angela, and 9-year-old Enzino accepts her as a huge improvement over the mother he lost without visible unhappiness.The most deeply smitten is 14-year-old Nino (Alessandro Memo), who begins by presenting Angela with an anonymous rose every day.
